Lessons from 70 Blog Posts

I've written 70 posts this year. Here's what I learned about consistent content creation.

The Numbers

  • 70 posts since May
  • ~2-3 posts per week
  • Topics: React, Node, career, projects, tutorials

Consistency is the hardest part.

What Worked

Batching

Write multiple posts in one sitting. Edit another day.

Sunday mornings became my writing time. 2-3 posts drafted, then scheduled through the week.

Topics List

I keep a running list of post ideas. When inspiration hits, I add to the list. When it's time to write, I pick from the list.

Never sit down without knowing what to write.

Good Enough > Perfect

Early posts took hours of editing. Now I write, do one editing pass, and publish.

Perfection is the enemy of done.

Mix of Types

  • Tutorials (structured, evergreen)
  • Opinion pieces (faster to write)
  • Personal updates (authentic, relatable)
  • Project showcases (portfolio building)

Variety keeps it interesting for me and readers.

What Didn't Work

Long Tutorials

Multi-part series are hard to maintain momentum on. The chatbot series worked, but I started others that fizzled.

Keep tutorials focused.

Chasing Trends

"I should write about [hot new thing]" when I hadn't actually used it. Those posts felt hollow.

Write what you know.

Overthinking SEO

Some posts I optimized heavily. Some I didn't. No clear correlation with traffic.

Write useful content. SEO follows.

The Benefits

Clarity of Thought

Writing forces you to truly understand a topic. "I can't explain this clearly" means I don't understand it well enough.

Portfolio

Every post is a signal that I'm active, thinking, building. Recruiters notice.

Community

Posts sparked conversations. People reached out. Connections formed.

Compound Effect

Post #70 is easier than post #1. The habit is built. The process is refined.

Advice for Starting

1. **Start small** - 1 post per week is plenty 2. **Lower the bar** - 500 words is fine 3. **Be consistent** - Same day, same time 4. **Write for yourself** - If it's useful to you, it's useful to someone 5. **Don't count numbers** - Traffic is vanity, consistency is value

What's Next

Keep writing. Keep building. The job search continues, but so does growth.
