Well kids.. its time to finally break away from GoDaddy. I have been saying it for a while. But today I get off the preverbal pot. I will no longer be renewing my domains through godaddy, Ill just be transferring them out to the new registrar as they near expiration. To which some of you may ask why wait. Well, if you had 80+ domains you’d drag it out a bit too.\r\n\r\nOverall I have been saying this for over a year, Im gonna do it, I will. I swear!! But never doing it. Simply put Godaddy has been on the decline in my eyes for a long time. It started off when every 6 months on the dot they would up the price of there domains 50 cents and claim its ICANN who is forcing there hands. Mind you I have been with Godaddy nearly a decade. I remember when domains were bought at roughly $6 and actually renewed at $6 dollars which was nice for some years.\r\n\r\nThen the price started climbing and really hasn’t stopped since, in fact it seems to have sped up and more random intervals. Even worse two or more domains with the same TLD and same age and even same expiration date can range from 50 cents to almost 5 dollars difference in a renewal rate, which makes no sense to me, and I don’t think it does the staff either, seeing as no one over at godaddy can give me a straight answer let alone one that makes any sense.\r\n\r\nBut I dealt with it.. and dealt with it.. and kept dealing with it. Then finally last year they were supporting SOPA and CISPA (and likely still do). Which was when my faith and hope in them started dwindling and when I started preaching that I’d get away and leave for someone else. Which I have researched at length who and where I am going (name.com for those curious). But having 80+ domains is kind of a hinge point, as its a pain staking process for someone with just 2-5 domains Im sure, so many hoops, so many x factors.\r\n\r\nEven when godaddy had its outage late last year I stuck through, still saying Im gonna leave, I will I swear, you watch, and never doing so.\r\n\r\nBut today was the last straw. Godaddy wanted $65 dollars to renew 4 domains.. 2 dot net, 2 dot com. But not a single one of them despite 3 of them having the same expriation date and age. While the remaining 4th one is maybe a year or so younger.\r\n\r\nI finally decided today as the renewals come up, the transfers begin. So today I transfered 8 domains ironically for a dollar more than what godaddy wanted for the renewal of 4. Where I transfered them I know the renewal rate is a little higher, but its been what its been for some time.\r\n\r\nSo with that, goodbye godaddy. Your services have finally pushed even me away. No longer will I have to deal with your poor quality service, or your up-sale tactics around every mouse click.. Now I might be able to actually budget accordingly now wondering what the rate is going to be..
